dave: what will your message be at graduation? guest: it will be one of reflection on our past and how far everyone has come, and of bright futures ahead. dave: excellent, i want your take on a story we talked about this morning in kentucky they are doing away with valedictorian honors saying that ranking students actually hurts them. when you come into high school, how important is that honor, is having that target something to shoot for? guest: well, actually, i had not heard that it is so important to have goals. coming in, i was extremely excited and nervous and really working so hard to ensure that i was going to do well thought only to prepare a great future for mile, but, also, to be able to represent my class and to help make my parents proud. dave: you have made a lot of americans happy this week, congratulations to you on accomplishing the valedictorian honor on graduating and good luck on your speech and
the government has in right to sensor a student s private religious speech. when we go back to the original ruling from the district judge, that you could not use amen, or lead a prayer but that you could bow to mecca, what did that mean to you in your rights as an american citizen? guest: it was so frustrating and disappointing to know that a judge decided they could rule and tell me what i could or could not say in my own valedictory address and i was disappointed that all the values and rights i learned about in school were not upheld. dave: obviously you held the appeal, and on what grounds did you say that ruling from that judge was incorrect. guest: well, we argued that this violates the first amendment. the government has in right to sensor a student s private religious expression, and angela and the other students have a right to engage in their own
