Haverhill Police Department names new chief

HAVERHILL A new chief is set to take the reins of the Haverhill Police Department, according to a town news release.
David Appleby, a 22-year veteran of the New Hampshire State Police, is slated to begin work on April 12.
He joined the state police in 1999, following an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps, the release said. During his first year of service in the state police, he had patrol duties in Haverhill. As a trooper, Appleby served on the New Hampshire State Police SWAT team, as a sniper team leader and as a member of the State Police Peer Unit, which provides programs to support sworn and civilian members of the organization.
