A $10,000 donation was made to the Graham Meals On Wheels organization Wednesday in the name of Graham Oaks Care Center. The donation was made by the owners of the center, Gary and Malisa Blake, as a drive to push others to give back to the local organization.
For over 40 years, the Meals On Wheels program in Graham has served the elderly and disabled Graham population. The organization has continued to struggle meeting the local needs of the community with donations drying up to help offset the cost of food.
Each week, the local organization serves meals to 100 clients five days a week who are unable to shop for or prepare meals for themselves due to age-related illnesses and disabilities. The program is not affiliated with the national Meals On Wheels organization and depends on local volunteers and donors to stay afloat.
