think this one a little glitch they ve had this week, the democrats are like if we get out on sunday night, we will make all the monday morning papers. chuck schumer used to do this he was great at it. he caught everybody flat-footed on monday morning, should have been working on a sunday. greg: why do people always say flat-footed as though it s a bad thing. dana: to have flat feet? greg: yes, i do. it s a micro-aggression. i think these budget issues are always an away game for republicans, it s always the democrats turf whenever you come on there. spending is the democrats wheelhouse, economic growth is the republicans will house. government growth is the democrats will house. it s always a war where you end up losing less. dana: president trump tried to come back on that today and say you are right, this has been their advantage, if you want to
government growth. yes, we ve seen the auto bait out but it didn t create for jobs and more money thrown at stimulus packages and the president promote a job bill that didn t pass through the congress because people from the left had a conscience and didn t vote for it. i agree with you, we need to see the left and right work together, but more people today are suffering. and if you have a job today, rich, we have seen more people live paycheck to paycheck. a lot of people don t believe that the american dream is attainable for them today. i completely lag there agree. the member dream, we re losing that. folks are going to college and not getting jobs. this is not what you saw with a chain saw. this president has tried to find ways rebuild the economy. he had to stop the pleading. we had 48 consecutive months of
tried behind closed doors to ram through what we might call obamacare one. and the public didn t want it and reacted. fast forward and the fallout now that obamacare is in place, with the polls declining in the latest fox news poll, you re going to see fallout from that reverberate, where the democrats could lose the senate. that s why they re meeting behind closed doors with the president and his team to see what can be done. i don t think much can because the president is not going to water down his position. not only the don t campaign for me, but they re openly and aggressively criticizing him of everything from his health care law to energy and regulatory policies, which some regard as antieconomic government growth. no. quite frankly, this is so
happen to the democrats. what happens is they go home and hear from the people that put them there and they want them to essentially continue doing what they want to do and with republicans in the house in control. what they want to do is, as charles put it, stop government growth. and i think that s probably not a bad idea. i don t think there is any incentive the way you put it. unfortunately, i wish there were. okay. but the tragedy is that, you know, we could be looking at a long stretch of time where this becomes the norm. and we do have large kind of national priorities that we should be tackling that probably will not be tackled. the last thing i need is an era of good feeling. this is good. all right. charles, rich, thank you. and happy new year. let s be optimistic about it. thanks, gentlemen. coming up, 2013, well, in addition to a few problems on capitol hill, there have been a few scandals.
when is the time finally for people to open their eyes and for the media to open its eyes, what is the time and the magic number when it comes to debt, when it comes to this trajectory of government growth, for people to say we do need to start slimming this thing down. you obviously feel very passionate about the national debt. the other day you gave a speech in which you compared it to slavery. yes. that s not a racist thing to do, by the way, which i know somebody s going to claim it is. don t you ever fear that by using hyperbole like that, obviously you don t literally mean it s like slavery which cost millions of people their lives and there was rape and torture. you are using it as a metaphor. but don t you ever worry that by using that kind of language, you risk obscuring the point you re trying to make? there is another definition of slavery and that is being beholden to some kind of master that is not of your choosing. yes, the national debt will be
