[gunfire] libyan rebels shooting it out with qaddafi forces and we re told the rebels say they won this round. claiming they have taken back a town in the western part of the country. they also apparently killed or captured some government fighters. the white house is now authorizing, get this, $25 million for the rebels but only for nonlethal aide. because, as you will remember, we have not taken sides and we are not in a war. we re learning one of the opposition military commanders may be a former guantanamo bay detainee. that s the word from the latest weak of u.s. military documents. they reportedly show the u.s. sent the detainee back to libya four years ago, even though it considered him to be a medium to high risk and that he had spent time at one of osama bin laden s training camps in afghanistan.

the magic wall to show some of the key developments over the weekend. this is ras lanuf, a major oil facility. in fact, we have a cnn crew there where they re reporting that rebel fighters appear to be in control of this city. they say they ve been able to repel several attacks by aircraft and helicopters. farther south is bin jawad. they have pushed them east and stalling government fighters headed for tripoli. and again, a little bit further west is tripoli. tripoli is 100% under control of the government. i want to take a look at the city of misrata where one of the largest battles are being fought about 120 miles from tripoli. and right now witnesses say 42 people have been killed, that 17 from the opposition killed, and that pro-gadhafi forces also 85 wounded. a doctor at the central misrata
