City of Cape Town hands over 10 homes in Manenberg with more to follow

Cape Town - Ten beneficiaries of a City housing project became proud homeowners in Manenberg on Monday.
The handover was part of the R77-million ‘The Downs’ housing project at the corner of Usk Road and The Downs Road.
In total, the project will provide housing to 587 beneficiaries, with completion expected by mid-2022.
Present yesterday was Mayco member for human settlements Malusi Booi, who said: “The Downs is located on five different sites in Manenberg and is an example of the City’s commitment to providing affordable housing on suitable land in and near urban centres.
The hustle and bustle of buying shacks

Cape Town - For some people, having a roof over their heads and a place to call home means living in a shack.
Building your own shack has become a long-term investment for dwellers in some neighbourhoods around Cape Town.
To own a shack, one either has to buy building material and start from scratch or buy a ready-made structure and erect it on a piece of land.
This can cost anything from R3 000 to more than R7 000.
But these days, some owners have either found a new place to stay or they sell their shacks for large sums of money.

Three gun-toting suspects were arrested after they allegedly fired their pistols and assaulted a motorist in Nyanga, Cape Town, on Thursday.
Police officers responding to information that a shooting had occurred in Sonwabile Drive in Crossroads, Nyanga, came across a white VW Polo.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said after the officers stopped the vehicle, an injured and bleeding driver emerged.
He told them that he was assaulted by three men driving a white Toyota Corolla.

The 5 suspects boarded the bus posing as passengers and when the bus reached Bonteheuwel they revealed that they had weapons and then robbed the 60 passengers and the river.
