STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Like many Staten Island residents, it took Bill and Maria Castello three weeks to snag a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine appointment at the city Health + Hospitals Gotham Health/Vanderbilt clinic in Clifton.
The husband and wife were ecstatic Bill has an underlying heart condition, having previously survived a heart attack, and Maria is a therapist and treats patients in-person daily.
Their appointments were scheduled for Sunday at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. “We don’t typically stay up that late, but we were happy to get an appointment,” the Travis residents told the Advance/SILive.com.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. People waiting for their shot at the Gotham Health/Vanderbilt clinic in Clifton will no longer have to endure winter weather, as the city has erected a new tent structure following an Advance/SILive.com report about the lack of a weather contingency plan for its outdoor vaccination sites.
Staten Island’s only city-run Health + Hospitals location, the Gotham Health/Vanderbilt site has been vaccinating people in a tent that is set up outside of the clinic. It is one of the borough’s two mass vaccination sites.
