2022 BMW M5 CS: Meet the fastest and most potent M car

2022 BMW M5 CS: Meet the fastest and most potent M car Alvin Reyes - Jan 27, 2021, 5:29am CST We knew beforehand the 2022 BMW M5 CS will literally blow away the competition. BMW went to Instagram before the new year and unveiled some juicy tidbits on its latest M5 CS ‘Competition Sport’ sedan, promising more power, less weight, and maximum driving enjoyment. The new BMW M5 CS is the fastest and most powerful iteration of the seventh-generation 5-Series. It has the same 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine as a standard M5 and M5 Competition model. But with two oil pumps, a liquid-to-air intercooler, and high-pressure direct injection, the M5 CS produces 627 horsepower and a healthy 553 pound-feet of torque, ten horses more than the bonkers M5 Competition.

WORLD PREMIERE: The First-Ever BMW M5 CS is Here -- Four-Seat Track Car

Launch Gallery When BMW M first developed the M5 back in the mid ’80s, the goal was simple; stuff a motorsport-derived engine into a family sedan and create the greatest all-around, dual-purpose driving machine in the world. At the time, that’s exactly what the E28 M5 was. It was faster than a Porsche 911 yet seated five, had electric power everything, a comfy ride and an interior fit for a king. Over the years, performance has increase but the goal hasn’t changed; its duality, the ability to be both performance car and luxury car, is still at the forefront of the M5’s design brief. But what if it wasn’t? What if BMW decided that it might be more fun to take the family for a track day instead of a road trip? What if the brilliant psychopaths in Garching made a BMW M5 CS?

BMW M5 CS revealed: most powerful ever, confirmed for Australia

It’s here. Well, it’s coming to Australia soon. The beastly new BMW M5 CS. This is the first Club Sport version of the iconic sports sedan ever, and it becomes the most powerful production car BMW has ever made. The M5 CS follows in the footsteps of the M3 and M4 CS, and more recently the M2 CS. Lightness and the removal of unnecessary luxuries is the main philosophy, and of course maximum power. Some unique revisions are also made to the interior and exterior to help it stand out from the regular model. Power comes from a tuned and tweaked version of the M5’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, so now it produces a colossal 467kW and 750Nm. This is sent through an eight-speed automatic with a switchable RWD/AWD system. In its peak settings, the sedan offers a blisteringly-quick 0-100km/h time of just 3.0 seconds. It also does 0-200km/h in a claimed 10.4 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 305km/h.

New M5 CS is the most potent BMW ever, and a few examples are coming to SA

New M5 CS is the most potent BMW ever, and a few examples are coming to SA By Jason Woosey Share MUNICH - Faster, lighter and exclusive enough to make you fight for your place on the waiting list - this is what BMW’s CS badge has come to represent and the latest M car to receive such a blessing is the M5. Although in outright power terms the new M5 CS only gains 7kW over the M5 Competition, with 467kW available at 6000rpm, that’s still enough to make it the most powerful BMW production car of all time. But despite the marginal power gain, and the fact that maximum torque stays the same at 750Nm, the M5 CS is still three tenths of a second faster from 0-100km/h, which it does in three seconds flat, and this is because the CS is a good 70kg lighter than its M5 Competition stablemate.
