Question: How can I apply my years of small business ownership and management experience to become a better leader?
Answer: First, a leader selects, trains, equips and influences one or more people who have diverse abilities, interests and skills. Leaders focus on the organization’s mission and objectives and influence those they lead so they willingly and enthusiastically expend their energies in a concerted effort to achieve those goals and objectives. (Winston & Patterson, 2006).
The definition of leadership has been confusing but at its coree it is the relationship between the leader and followerse when they address and accomplish an organization’s mission. It is a process, not a person. (Van Wart, 2013). Leadership is a reciprocal relationship between those who choose to lead and those who decide to follow. It is not something you do to people but do with people.
