Junior foreign minister Wendy Morton told the Thomson Reuters Foundation that the declaration marked an important step towards equality . We fully support its call to end violence, discrimination and the ongoing criminalisation of same-sex conduct in 69 countries, she said.
She described conversion therapy as an abhorrent practice and should be stopped .
McAleese said the joint statement represented a small step towards countering [homophobia] . But it s a necessary step to remind the faith systems of the world and people of faith that they have an obligation to their fellow citizens who are also entitled to the full dignity of their humanity and their full equal human rights, she said.

The LGBT activist and General Synod member Jayne Ozanne has joined forces with members of other faiths in a campaign to challenge biblical teaching on sexual ethics and biological sex.
The Ozanne Foundation’s declaration to affirm and celebrate LGBT practice includes a call to ban “all attempts to change, suppress or erase a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression”.
Earlier this year the Foundation urged the Prime Minister to introduce a law covering “the full range of religious practices”, including outlawing calls to sexual abstinence. It also called for the law to prevent trans people who regret changing sex getting help to detransition.

The Global Interfaith Commission on LGBT+ Lives issued a declaration Wednesday calling for the recognition of all sexual proclivities and acts as “part of the natural order.”
The UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) financed a conference Wednesday to launch of the Global Interfaith Commission on LGBT+ Lives, Pink News reported.
Clergy and laypersons hailing from a number of different religious traditions signed the group’s inaugural declaration affirming the preciousness of “all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions”
The declaration denounces religious teachings that suggest that all sexual attractions and activities are not of the same worth or that condemn homosexual acts as immoral and foreign to God’s plan for humanity.
