Sunny future for Glenmore Water Treatment Plant
Construction of a solar energy facility at Glenmore Water Treatment Plant is set to start in the next few months after Rockhampton Regional Council awarded the construction contract to Australia’s leading solar energy provider, Solgen Energy, earlier this week.
Mayor Tony Williams said he couldn’t wait to see the $2.6m project get started.
“Here at Rockhampton Regional Council we are serious about building a sustainable future, and this is a great stride in that direction,” said Mayor Williams.
“Back in the 2018 budget we created the Sustainable Rockhampton Investment Fund to support initiatives that will deliver a cleaner, greener future for the region, and building this solar facility was something we really wanted to try and make happen.
A round of applause began the Rockhampton Regional Council meeting on Tuesday as new Mayor Tony Williams chaired his first meeting.
Cr Williams paid thanks to the councillors, council staff and the community for their patience over the past month during the by-election and said he was eager to take Rockhampton to the next step. Councillor Neil Fisher was thanked for stepping up into the role of Acting Mayor in the absence of former mayor Margaret Strelow.
