Something went wrong - please try again later. Sign Up A derelict former secondary school in Tomintoul is to be given a new lease of life, as plans to build affordable housing have been approved. The Tomintoul and Glenlivet Community Trust (TGDT) applied for permission to redevelop the site to create 12 affordable properties with a mixture of homes to purchase and rent. This application has now been approved by the Cairngorms National Park, who said the project would be “of huge benefit to the local community.”

Sign Up Campaigners in Dufftown want to create an affordable housing development to ensure residents can continue to buy and live in their own community. There have been reports of young adults finding it difficult to save to buy while some properties are being bought by people moving to the region. Affordable housing project could be ‘game-changer’ for Dufftown Now Dufftown Community Association has launched a consultation to establish an affordable housing development in the Speyside town and ensure locals are not priced out of the region.

Sign Up Community groups across Moray have shared £189,000 in grants from a Speyside wind farm fund The awards are the first batch of money to be allocated from EDF Renewables’ Dorenell development near Dufftown. The Tomintoul and Glenlivet Development Trust received the biggest boost with £42,400 to hire a development officer for two years to promote projects and events. The Cabrach Community Association and Cabrach Trust both received £30,000 to create a new footpath, woodland and wildflower meadow and Dufftown Pipe Band got £23,000.
