SEZs will be futile if industries not installed timely: NA body

The Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has observed that the establishment of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) would be futile, if industries are not installed there timely.
The 37th meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC held under the chairmanship of MNA Sher Aftab Ali was informed that issues pertaining to sale and cancellation of plots in SEZs need to be resolved at the earliest so that the process of establishing industries in SEZs could be expedited.

Islamabad, February 12: Pakistan’s Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on Thursday evening directed the concerned ministries to prepare the list of ‘deliverable’ projects for the upcoming 10th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) with Iron Brother China.
The 31st meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC was held here at the Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Sher Ali Arbab.
“The Committee thoroughly examined the agreed projects in Joint Working Groups thereby to be presented as deliverables in the forthcoming 10th Joint Coordination Committee between China and Pakistan and recommended that the remaining deliverables by all concerned Ministries/Divisions should be forwarded to the Committee at the earliest so that tangible progress of all the projects pertaining to every segment of CPEC could be evaluated and accelerated,” said an official statement issued after the in-camera meeting.

29th meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was held today at 11:00 a.m. in National Agriculture Research Centre, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sher Ali Arbab, MNA.

The Committee was briefed by Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security & Research and Chairman, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council regarding Pakistan Agricultural Research Council and other projects related to agriculture sector. The Chairman PARC, while sharing 10 years development targets under CPEC, briefed the Committee that PARC’s aim is to change Pakistan from cotton import country to cotton export country and save foreign exchange of 1.5 billion USD.
