Term in Review: S.A.G. Sarah Danielzadeh

May 10, 2021 at 9:00 am by Sindhu Ananthavel The Nexus has compiled profiles of our current Associated Students elected officials to reflect on their past year in office. As they look back on their campaign platforms, we asked our elected officials to tell us about their successes and shortfalls throughout their terms in office. The term in reviews for the other executives — President, IVP, EVPSA and EVPLA  —  can be viewed at dailynexus.com.  While navigating a completely remote school year, Student Advocate General Sarah Danielzadeh employed creative approaches to reach out to the student population and address their needs. Danielzadeh said her office’s most important form of outreach was through contacting students directly.

Isla Vista Party Takes Home Executive Majority, Storke Party Claims the Most Senate Seats

Isla Vista Party Takes Home Executive Majority, Storke Party Claims the Most Senate Seats Isla Vista Party will hold a majority within the Associated Students executive branch for the 2021-22 school year, with the newly founded Storke Party capturing one seat — the presidency.  The election, which was hosted in a Zoom webinar format as opposed to its traditional in-person location at the University Center Hub, garnered 125 viewers, according to Andrew Yan, elections board chair.  Nexus file photo In its first year on the ballot, Storke Party edged out the Isla Vista Party by one senate seat, taking home a total 12 compared to Isla Vista Party’s 11. Three seats were filled by independent candidates, two of whom were write-ins. No party retained a senate majority this election, as it would have taken at least 14 seats to do so.

Geovany Lucero for Student Advocate General

The Daily Nexus endorses fourth-year feminist studies major Geovany Lucero as the next Student Advocate General. The Nexus believes that Lucero — who is running unopposed — has illustrated the exceptional experience, qualifications and goals necessary to succeed in this position.  Throughout their academic career, Lucero has become increasingly involved with the university. Courtesy of Geovany Lucero The Student Advocate General (S.A.G.) works in the Office of the Student Advocate, an executive, nonpartisan office that assists and represents students in disciplinary administrative and conduct matters. In the past year, Lucero has served as the internal deputy chief of staff in the office, and the Nexus believes they have the knowledge and skillset to begin work as the S.A.G. from day one of their term.
