A £37 Million Pound fund has been established for victims of the breast surgeon ian paterson, who duped his patients into unnecessary operations, including mastectomies. He was convicted of 20 offences in april. He is serving 20 years injail. The bulk of the fund will come from spire health care, which runs the private hospitals in which many of the operations took place. Its thought that more than 700 women might have a claim. Sima kotecha has the story. Breast surgeon ian paterson, jailed for 20 years after carrying out hundreds of unnecessary operations. Here are the faces of some of his victims. Now, more than 700 of them will get compensation from a pot amounting to £37 million. One
Are being planned for people who are repeatedly caught carrying acid or other corrosive substances. The government wants to introduce a minimum six month jail term in england, wales and scotland. This comes after the number of acid attacks across the uk more than doubled in the past five years. Heres our Home Affairs Correspondent danny shaw. Convicted this week, two robbers who sprayed a chemical on their victims. Joshua jordan and sadik kamara were part of a gang that attacked a shop assistant in east london. The woman, in her 50s, was squirted, with ammonia at least three times. Herface burning, she bravely fought back. Later, jordan and kamara sprayed another woman with ammonia. They will be sentenced next month. The government wants to give police greater powers to prevent attacks with substances like ammonia. In future it will be an offence to carry harmful chemicals in public, unless theres a reasonable explanation. Its really important that we send out a very strong message tha
