The cross border war between israel and the palestinians in gaza escalated dramatically today prompting president obama to call israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to offer u. S. Help to arrange a ceasefire. Israels military says the palestinians fired well over 100 rockets into residential areas of israel today. The israelis say that their aerial assault on gaza hit about 500 targets. So far this week at least 80 palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed. Violence between israel and the palestinians in gaza has been going on for decades, of course. This latest battle was sparked by the kidnapping and murder of three jewish students in the west Bank Last Month and the revenge killing of a palestinian teenager. Holly williams is in gaza city.
