TCN records 6 peak electricity transmission in 6 months

“This approach paid off quickly as evidenced in the multiple all-time peak generation recorded in the sector on the following days within the last six months. 5377.8 megawatts (MW) was recorded on August 1, 2020, 5,420.30MW on August 19, 2020, 5,459.50MW was achieved on October 28, 2020, and two days later on the October 30, 2020, the Nigerian grid network recorded yet another all-time peak of 5,5020.40MW. All these were seamlessly transmitted through the transmission grid. “TCN on January 6, 2021 and on January 7, 2021 recorded yet another all-time peak of 5,552.40MW and 5,584.40MW. This is an uncommon record in the Nigerian power sector. “This consistency and regular incremental improvement in Grid Performance on TCN’s part is an indication of the professionalism and best practices that was brought in by the new Management in TCN,” it noted.

TCN counters AEDC, says no fault on Gwagwalada-Apo line

Share Contrary to an announcement made by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) of possible power interruptions in some parts of Abuja, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Thursday, said there is no fault at its Kukwaba or Apo Substation that would require cutting supply to any of the DisCos feeders. The AEDC had on Tuesday announced that some parts of Abuja would witness interruptions in power supply as the TCN plans to conduct maintenance work between January 26th to 28th. It said the TCN team will conduct a re-string on the vandalised portion of the 132kV line transporting energy from Gwagwalada transmission station to Apo/Kukwaba TransmissionStations.

Daily Trust - National electricity grid hits 5,584MW as highest peak

TCN assured that it will continue to work hard to ensure efficient transmission of power generated on the nation’s electricity grid. The company noted that the new electricity peak is an indication of the gradual but consistent growth in the capability of the power sector under the present administration. It added that the transmission network has reached 8,100MW capacity to evacuate more power for supply to Nigerians. Daily Trust on Saturday reports that the national grid saw four all-time peak generation and transmission last year, being the highest in a year so far. The first record of 5,377.80MW occurred on August 1, 2020, and rose to 5,420.30MW on August 18. The third all-time peak power generation of 5,459.50MW was recorded on October 28 while the last for the year was 5,520MW, recorded on October 30, 2020.

Daily Trust - Council makes case for Nigeria to procure two new satellites

Daily Trust reports that Nigeria’s only communications satellite was launched on May 13, 2007, and it has almost expired in orbit. “The call for the launching of High-throughput satellite, NigComSat-2 and NigComSat-3 communication satellites for continuity of services as NigComSAT-1R is fast approaching its End of Life (EOF)”, the statement signed the General Manager Public Affairs, Adamu Idris, said. Idris said the council took the step in accordance with the position presented to it by the NIGCOMSAT Ltd team led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Abimbola Alale. The council adopted the presentation after thorough deliberations and syndicate group scrutiny, evaluation and ratification of all issues presented to them, he stated.
