In a stinging letter seen by News24, Police Minister Bheki Cele has effectively told outgoing police chief Khehla Sitole to stop doing his job and hand over a report on 'major and high-profile' cases.
The DA has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa asking him to instruct Police Minister Bheki Cele to withdraw his request to the current National Police Commissioner, General Khehla Sitole, to provide him with handover reports on active police investigations. No politician, including President Ramaphosa, should receive any information on active SAPS investigations. This follows media reports that Minister Cele has written to General Sitole requesting a comprehensive handover report including “major and high-profile cases”.
Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Andrew Whitfield has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa, requesting him to "urgently intervene" in Police Minister Bheki Cele's directive to the outgoing national police commissioner to hand over a detailed report on the SAPS. Cele's directive to General Khehla Sitole also covered all "major" or "high-profile investigations".
DA MP Andrew Whitfield has requested that President Cyril Ramaphosa urgently stop Police Minister Bheki Cele accessing a detailed handover report on the SAPS. He says Cele's request to Sitole is "highly irregular".
