The U.S. dredging fleet is growing. Presently on order and under construction is a raft of in-demand equipment that will help to keep America’s ports and waterways open, safeguard coastal communities and maintain the vital flow of maritime commerce to, from and through the U.S.
In August, Eastern Shipbuilding Group cut first steel for a new trailing suction hopper dredge (TSHD) it is building for Weeks Marine, and the keel was laid the following month at the builder’s Allanton Shipyard in Panama City, Fla. The new 6,540 cubic meter capacity dredge R.B. Weeks, ordered by the Cranford, N.J.-based marine construction and dredging contractor in April, is scheduled for delivery in early 2023. what is happening in this administration. do you fear you might be normalizing the decisions of this president because you are so critical of his predecessors? yeah. i don t think one person can normalize anything. right now i ve got a lot of faith in the american people to draw their own conclusions. remember that i signed the contract to write a book about military leadership in 2013. i was not the secretary of defense. i never aspired to be the secretary of defense. joe biden was not running for president. it s a book written about policy and strategy. i don t even in this book get into political assessments of who the american people elected. now can t you speak more publicly about your assessments? the u.s. military, since the time of george washington, during abraham lincoln s time, has dealt with this. george marshall, general bradley said when generals retire their uniform they should make sure they retire their tongue about politics. i stay with the military traditional
very decisive? one thing that george washington and george marshall, general bradley taught all of us by their example and their words, the military does not get into making political we re very fortunate in this country. we don t think of the military stepping out and reversing an electi election. these not true in a lot of places. neil: there s some people like you that let men and women in battle, former chief of stall kelly in that role, offer a perspective on that and being bellicose and exerting authority. we re all shaped by formative experiences. you re right. the first time as a young officer you point at one of your troops and point forward and they get up and go, you can t be anything other than humbled that they re putting their life on the line. neil: i know, general, are
issue, basically. politics ends at the water s edge. what is the institution that is most admired, the american public has the most confidence in in polls year after year, it s the military. why is that, because we re apolitical. we stay out of the politics. we defend the experiment that you and i call america. is there a statute of limitations. probably, on policy and strategy, there will come a time, not right now. what happened competence and character. i believe the political assessments should be left to the wisdom of the american people. i have this much let me just make a point. general bradley after world war ii was the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, and he said when a general retires their uniform, they should retire their tongue on these kinds of issues, and the reason is, when i walked into your studio this morning, people greeted me as general mattis. i consider myself jim mattis,
unbelievable i really appreciate you sharing both of your stories. did you guys know each other before today? no. no. we met over in one of your little tents over here. how many times have you been back? i ve been back since i came first, 64 rangers were coming to point du hawk and later the government decided president reagan was going to come along. fortunately 64 of us. ever since then i ve met wonderful people who have been my hosts over here and i ve been here for every reunion, every fifth reunion. you ve been every one going from reagan on huh? clinton i was up there and with president bush and twice with president obama. how many times have you been here? i ve been here on the 40th. and sitting next to my wife was general bradley.
