THERE are a series of self-serving indicators that Prime Minister Scott Morrison will go to an early election. They all serve as a reminder of the need for fixed-term elections for the federal government.
The middle ground is where elections are won and lost. Over the last few decades the Liberal Party has been deserting this ground in favour of a more and more conservative approach to politics.

Provided by Dow Jones By Jaime Llinares Taboada Anglo American Platinum Ltd. said Monday that its executive head of processing has sold shares in the company for 15.2 million rand ($1.1 million). The mining company, which is majority owned by Anglo American PLC, said Gary Humphries sold 7,411 shares at an average price of ZAR2,051.01. The shares had been awarded in 2018 as part of a long-term incentive plan. They were subject to a three-year holding period which vested on April 20. In addition, the group said Lorato Mogaki sold 3,432 shares at the same price, for ZAR7.0 million. Ms. Mogaki is executive head of human resources.
