MUMBAI: Two years after the death of a Malad homemaker, an FIR has been registered against two gynecologists for “negligently” leaving behind a surgical mop in her body while performing a hysterectomy. The FIR registered by Dindoshi police is based on a report by an experts’ panel from Grant Government Medical College. The woman’s family members say the past two years have been a “nightmare” and they have exhausted their savings while running from pillar to post to seek redressal.
Ganga Sen (45) lived in Malad with her husband and children. In January 2019, she began to experience severe menstrual bleeding and her physician referred her to Jeevan Maternity Hospital, Malad. Dr Sarina Relan and Dr Ramesh Relan performed the hysterectomy, along with their team, on January 13. A panel of doctors from Government Medical College in Mumbai examined the records of deceased Ganga Sen and concluded that the two gynecologists were negligent while performing the surgery.
