$22m scam suspect surrenders

Fraud suspect Moses January Banda who is accused of theft of $22 million from TM Pick n Pay’s Steward Bank account surrendered himself to police over the weekend and yesterday appeared in court, distancing himself from the offence saying his hands were clean.
Banda distanced himself from the offence saying his hands were clean.
January (44) told the Harare court yesterday when he appeared for initial remand and his bail application that he does not know any of the other suspects who implicated him of playing a major role in the fraud.

ONE more suspect TM Supermarkets $22 million fraud case on Monday appeared in court answering to fraud charges.
Moses Banda was arrested during the weekend after he handed himself to the police.
He was remanded in custody for bail hearing continuation after the state opposed bail on grounds that releasing him will jeopardise investigations.
Banda is being represented lawyer Lucky Mauwa.
He appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova.
Banda’s alleged accomplices Tonderai Chagweda and Tatenda Jombe however secured $50 000 bail each last week following a successful application by their lawyer, Tafadzwa Hungwe.
According to the state, the three accused persons allegedly connived with Ronald Mudzingwa who is still at large.

The suspected mastermind behind the $22 million fraud at TM Pick n Pay through its account at Steward Bank, Moses January Banda, has been on police wanted list since 2008 for multiple fraud cases but has continually slipped away although his alleged accomplices, as in the present case, frequently end up in handcuffs and in court.
Police are anxious to interview Banda, and his sidekick Ronald Mudzingwa. Two other alleged accomplices inside TM Pick n Pay, Tonderai Selesio Chagweda (28) and Wellington Jombe (34), who were arrested were brought to court on Thursday. They were granted bail of $50 000 each yesterday.
