Jordan had an OK night and suffered from the fact that starting quarterback Davis Mills only played two drives before backup Jeff Driskel was tasked to finish the remainder of the game. He had an unfortunate drop in the fourth quarter where he was also penalized that might have been a huge first down and more if he d played the ball correctly. Jordan still has the rest of the preseason to break out on a team that lacks many playmakers.
Romano has allowed runs in each of his last three relief appearances for the Blue Jays, striking out three and picking up one save in two save chances during that span. The right-hander has been one of the top closers in the American League all season, posting a 1.06 WHIP and 2.59 ERA with 46 strikeouts and 25 saves in 42 relief appearances this season.
Lyles faced 16 batters while surrounding two home runs as his ERA increased to 4.76 on the year. Sunday was the righty s first start this season where he didn t last at least three innings. The five strikeouts in a shortened start was the lone positive takeaway from a performance that Lyles will like to forget. The Hartsville native will likely be scheduled to start versus the Rays in Baltimore on July 26.
Montgomery gave up a two-run homer to Rafael Devers in the 1st inning but still managed six innings and left in line for the win. It was Montgomery’s eighth quality start and 13th no decision in 18 starts this season. Monty heads into the All-Star break at 3-2 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.04 WHIP to go with 80 strikeouts across 102 innings. The lefty is on pace the lowest ERA of his career and will look to continue his success on the mound in the second half of the season. Montgomery’s next start will come after the All-Star break.
Montgomery allowed 11 men to reach base and struck out just two in six innings of work on Wednesday. Monty left after six in line for his 2nd loss of the season but his offense got him off the hook on Jose Trevino’s go-ahead homer in the 8th. Montgomery remains 3-1 on the year carrying a 2.97 ERA and 1.02 WHIp even with Wednesday’s off night. The lefty will look to improve on this start in his next one on Monday when Oakland comes to town.
