Galveston County Commissioners have approved construction of a facility they hope will not only save mental health deputies time, but keep mental health patients out of jail.
A man died from hyperthermia on June 24 at a Houston hospital, marking the first confirmed heat-related death in the city this year. It was at least the second in the region, which continues to cope with triple-digit temperatures.
Hyperthermia was a contributing cause of death for Webster resident William Toomey, who died last Friday. There were at least two heat-related deaths in the Houston area in June.
