GUK gives iftar, sehri to orphans in Gaibandha, Dinajpur districts

GAIBANDHA, April 26, 2021(BSS)- Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a local reputed non-government organisation, has taken up an initiative to feed quality iftar and sehri to the destitute and orphans of Gaibandha and Dinajpur districts for helping them to observe the fasting during ‘Ramadan’.
From the first day of Ramadan, GUK has given foods to 16 orphanages of Gaibandha Sadar, Shaghata, Fulchhari and Sundarganj upazilas of the district and Fulbari and Nababganj upazilas of Dinajpur district, said Aftab Hossain, coordinator of the organisation.
Chief executive of GUK Md Abdus Salam said Australia-based Donor Organization Muslim around the World is providing the fund to implement the initiative.

Two local dancers and a singer in Bogura landed in jail yesterday in a case filed over the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl and attempted rape of another aged 13.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Nishkriti Hakidar passed the order in the afternoon hours after the father of the 14-year-old girl filed the case with the Bogura Sadar Police station, said Court Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh.
The accused are Raju Ahmed, 27, of Gaibandha Sadar upazila, Noyon Mia Shah, 30, of Bogura Sadar upazila, and Nisa Khatun Niha, 19, of Bogura town. They are performers of local dance groups.

The Awami League promised to constitute the tribunal and hold war crimes trials in the manifesto of the ninth general election in 2009, and formed the International Crimes Tribunal or ICT the following year.
The tribunal has delivered verdicts in 41 cases of crimes against humanity and convicted 95 of the 105 accused. Of the 69 death-row convicts, 35 are on the run and one other died as a fugitive. Life terms were handed down to 24 of the accused, but 12 of them are currently absconding.
