Good morning, thank you for having me. Around 7 15 this morning, police officers, Law Enforcement from the university police, the Wisconsin State Patrol and state and county and Madison Police that the encampment would be taken down and they remained on site until about 9 00 a. M. They left all tents. They left tables up with supplies and water for protesters. All tents were removed. Over a dozen individuals were arrested. And the police have left, some Campus Police are patrolling the area, but there are a couple of tents that have gone back up since police left. And so, cat, this when did this intensify. Been underway for several days. Just after 9 00 p. M. Eastern the new York City Police department breached Hamilton Hall using a truck with a ramp. That happened almost 24 hours after protesters broke into the building and occupied it. The nypd says Hamilton Hall is now cleared and so is the Tent Encampment on the south lawn of the campus. An nypd spokesperson spoke to nbc news shortly after the officers went in. The building was very heavily fortified. Doorways were blocked by Soda Machines, couches, plywood. So there were rumors that the nypd used tear gas. The nypd does not use tear gas. We use a Distraction Device. It is a device that is thrown and makes a loud bang. A stun grenade. It is a Distraction Device that makes a loud noise. That allowed officers time to get through the barricades. Columbia university formally requested Law Enforcement help earlier this evening. Tonight, at Columbia University, the epicenter of the demonstrations, dozens of propalestinian students have barricaded themselves inside a campus building, and they now face expulsion from the ivy league school. A White House Spokesman today saying forcibly taking over buildings is not peaceful, it is wrong. At the university of North Carolina in chapel hill, police forcefully removed protesters this morning. More than half of those arrested were not even affiliated with the university. In recent weeks, protests have been staged at more than 60 campuses. More than a thousand people have been arrested. Many protesters are calling for the schools to cut ties with companies linked to israel and to be transparent about their investments. Dozens of officers arrived on campus late last nightwearing riot gear. They used a ramp to get inside hamilton hall, the main Academic Building which was occupied by protesters overnight on monday. Video shows special police units entering the building through a second story window. Officers say about 40 people were arrested inside.
