Edo: NEMA partners FRSC, Red Cross on reducing road accidents On By Gabriel Enogholase, Benin As part of efforts to ensure accidents free celebration of the yuletide season in Edo state, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Red Cross Society (RCS). Speaking during the flag-off the joint patrols along the Benin-Lagos road, NEMA Head of Benin Operations, Mr Dahiru Yusuf said the event was aimed at having emergency free yuletide season. He said the sensitization and awareness campaign was aimed at supporting the Edo State Command of the FRSC in curbing carnage on the highways and loss of lives during and after the season.

Okundia gave this indication yesterday in Benin, during an award ceremony organised by the Medical and Dental Consultant Association (MDCAN), Edo State Hospital Management Board Chapter. He said the fear of the first wave of COVID-19 made the state to ensure that it leaves no stone unturned in getting things done properly. He said, ” The first wave of COVID-19 helped us to look inward into the decay in the health sector of the state and also assisted us to raise the level of our health system up to where it is now are all being in place”.

By Gabriel Enogholase – Benin A former Commissioner under the late Navy Captain Anthony Onyearegbulem’s administration in Edo State, Dr Johnson Erimafa, on Tuesday, told the State Judicial Panel of Inquiry for victims of SARS and related abuses how his only son was murdered in cold blood by a trigger happy police officer in 2003. Dr Erimafa, a retired Mathematics lecturer at the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, told the panel that his late son, Paul Erimafa, 18, was brutally murdered by a happy-trigger police officer, Sergeant Kalijaye when he was on his way to watch the Big Brother Africa in a cyber cafe close to his house.

Speaking with newsmen at the company’s premises at Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, leader of the group, Mr. Abudu Briamah, alleged that the Managing Director of the company, Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor has refused to remit their contributing pension funds to the appropriate quota saying that they may not know what the future holds for them on retirement.

He disclosed that the police came to their community in a commando-style, teargassed them when they were in a meeting discussing the way forward for the community, saying that since that day, he has remained blind. He is the fifth ranking in the cabinet of His Royal Highness, Oba Abiodun Agbaje of Ekpesa Community, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
