Juniper Valley loop, Sandstone Ranch Open Space
Since opening in the fall of 2020, Sandstone Ranch Open Space has become a go-to for outdoor lovers living between Colorado Springs and Denver.
Douglas County proclaims the 2,000-plus acres the “crown jewel” of its open space portfolio, which seeks to preserve the area’s rural heritage. That heritage is found at Sandstone Ranch homestead remains dating back to the 1870 can be viewed from sloping meadows sprinkled with red rock formations.
The master plan calls for more opportunities for discovery. For now, there’s plenty of splendor along the 12-mile trail circuit shaped like a figure eight.

It s getting harder to ignore the signal for a significant storm to impact the region late this week and weekend. A slow moving system will move into the Southwest United States by mid week and eventually make its way toward Colorado by Friday and the weekend.
Increasing support for a significant event
Overnight data came into better agreement with how models want to handle this large cutoff low as it moves through late this week. This trend we started to see on Sunday, and one that continued in the data overnight.
To visit Victor, the hamlet west of Colorado Springs, is to step back in time. While neighboring Cripple Creek bustles as a casino destination, Victor stays quiet.
Indeed, the town feels frozen in time. More than a century removed from the gold rush, relics still stand. They’re here along Vindicator Valley Trail: rusted, splintering structures like skeletons in a land of lost dreams.
Within the hilly mosaic, you’ll get the solitude of a classic Colorado trail. You’ll also get an education, with history waiting at the turn of every corner.
First along the wide path is Theresa Mine, represented by a neck-craning tower. A sign tells of the mine producing $2.5 million in gold in its brief life, beginning in 1895.
