Canon City man who shot and killed his friend sentenced to 9 years prison

CANON CITY A man accused of gunning down his friend of 15 years was sentenced to nine years in prison during a hearing Monday in Fremont County District Court. Derrick Donahue, 39, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Benjamine Welch, 42, who died of a single gunshot wound to the chest May 17 at a home at 933 S. Third St. Donahue reported to police the two men had been drinking and Welch had been smoking methamphetamine when the two began to argue. Donahue said he lunged for his .22 caliber pump action rifle and fired a single round into Welch’s chest because Welch was aggressively advancing on him “like a bear,” according to an affidavit.

Riverton woman bound over for armed attack on husband’s girlfriend RIVERTON (WNE) — A Riverton woman accused of launching an armed home invasion on her husband’s girlfriend was transferred after a Monday preliminary hearing to Fremont County District Court for felony-level prosecution. The bond for Monica Ingram, 28, remains at $100,000 cash only. She was arrested in Lander, which is where the alleged attack was reported. On Dec. 4 at 5:50 p.m., Lander Police Department officer James Wooten was told that Ingram dressed up as a delivery person, knocked on a woman’s door, forced her way inside, and pointed a pistol at the woman.

ANTHONY, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Special Prosecutor Rob Wood is calling for an expedited court hearing on two motions filed against him this week by attorneys for Lori Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell. The couple is separately accused of numerous charges related to the disappearance and deaths of Vallow s two children. In a separate motion, Wood calls on the court to prohibit defense attorneys from releasing any defense exhibits to the news media or other publications or to make any comment about their exhibits in social media formats. To do so, Wood argued, would create difficulty in picking a trial jury.

ANTHONY, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK)-UPDATE: In the wake of his co-defendant Lori Vallow, Chad Daybell, through his attorney John Prior, has filed a separate motion calling for the disqualification and removal of Madison County Prosecutor Robert Wood from Daybell’s case. In the filing, Prior claims Wood engaged in coercive, unduly influential, and intimidating tactics to manipulate a material witness.  He cites an audio recording as evidence. He goes on to demand that the court disqualify Wood and direct him to take no further action in the case.
