Creative arts showcase returns - Barbados Today

The National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) is back after a two-year pandemic break featuring a wide variety of cultural events and exhibitions that will showcase the skills and talents of Barbadians.At Wednesday’s launch of NIFCA 2022 at Queen’s Park House, National Cultural Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carol Roberts-Reifer said this year’s festival has been designed to respond to lessons learned by the challenges of operating in a pandemic environment.She said NIFCA 2022 will be delivered in a hybrid format that combines both digital and face-to-face events and experiences, generating content that will be available for distribution online in the future.“Each of the seven disciplines usually featured at NIFCA will be showcased. 2030 doubtful - Barbados Today

Governor of the Central Bank Cleviston Haynes has expressed doubt that the island can achieve the Government’s “desirable but ambitious” goal of becoming fully reliant on renewable energy by 2030.However, he said it was vital for the country to set the target to make that energy shift even if it occurred later than hoped.Although acknowledging that momentum toward reaching the goal was building, Haynes admitted on Wednesday he was not surprised the country was behind the target.“The 2030 plan has always been an ambitious objective. It is desirable but ambitious…. Will we get there by 2030? I am no expert in that area but maybe we won’t,” he said in response to questions from journalists during his quarterly economic review at the Frank Collymore Hall.

Tourism still driving Barbados economy

Tourism is leading the way as the Barbados economy continues its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
