With more than 300 active COVID-19 cases in Strathcona County, some local schools are reverting back to online learning.
Nearly 980 students and 100 staff belonging to Elk Island Public Schools are currently quarantining. Overall, there were 27 active school cases linked to that division.

According to a letter sent to parents (as documented on supportourstudents.ca), EIPS said large number of students and staff are quarantining due to new variants, mostly the B.1.1.7 (U.K.) variant, “taking hold within the region”.

Almost two dozen active COVID-19 cases were recorded locally in a matter of days this week.
As of Thursday, April 15, Alberta Health reported 254 active COVID-19 cases in Strathcona County 192 cases in Sherwood Park and 62 in the rural portion of the county.
