MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) â Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune is extending the cityâs COVID-19 civil emergency declaration through the month of May, city leaders said.
âWe have seen improvements in the number of COVID-19 cases locally, thanks to many residents receiving one of the vaccines, but the health emergency caused by the global pandemic continues,â a Friday morning post on the cityâs Facebook page states. âThis declaration serves as a reminder that we must remain vigilant with our health and safety protocols if we are to overcome COVID-19.â

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The City of Myrtle Beach is considering more changes as budget discussions continue ahead of the next fiscal year.
The $231.3 million proposal would restore many of the cuts that were made last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement from the city.
The recommended budget from City Manager Fox Simons now includes 10 new police officers along with other positions, such as a “chief diversity officer.”

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach city leaders met with state leaders in Columbia Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mayor Brenda Bethune, city manager Fox Simons and city councilman John Krajc traveled to the stateâs capital to meet with state lawmakers and members of the governorâs office.
â[We] went to just do some relationship-building to give some updates about whatâs happening in Myrtle Beach,â Bethune said.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach City leaders want to put a festival scheduled for later this month on hold.
Myrtle Beach City Council was set to vote on a Special Event Permit for the Myrtle Beach Arts and Music Festival, planned for Jan. 30, during a meeting Tuesday.
While discussing the event, Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune first suggested making masks a requirement for all attendees and vendors.
