SINGAPORE: Disney s move to shut down several of its sports and movie channels in Southeast Asia represents another blow for pay-television operators in Singapore, analysts said.
The move means pay-TV subscriptions for StarHub and Singtel are likely to continue declining, as more and more content moves to over-the-top (OTT) streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, they explained.

But this does not mean the death of pay-TV in Singapore, the analysts noted, pointing out that telcos can tweak their business models to compete with streaming services, albeit with difficulty.

The 13 channels are Fox, Fox Crime, Fox Life, Fox Action Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Movies, FX, Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3, Channel V, Nat Geo People and SCM Legend.
The Walt Disney Company told The Straits Times: Effective Oct 1, 2021, Disney will operate a streamlined television portfolio that covers Chinese language channels (Star Chinese Channel; Star Chinese Movies) and Factual Entertainment (National Geographic Channel; Nat Geo Wild).

Disney Group set to close five cable channels in Taiwan

Disney Group is set to cancel five cable channels in Taiwan as part of its plans to close 18 TV channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, Fox Network Group’s branch in Taiwan said yesterday.
The news follows the group’s termination on Jan. 1 of its broadcast of Fox Sports 1, 2 and 3 channels in Taiwan.
A story published on Tuesday by US entertainment news site Variety said that the 18 channels include Fox, Fox Crime, Fox Life and FX; movie channels Fox Action Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Movies and Star Movies China; sports channels Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3, Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2; kids’ channels Disney Channel and Disney Junior; and factual services Nat Geo and SCM Legend.
