Hualien deal would use public land for maritime museum

Taiwan International Ports Corp (TIPC) on Saturday said it would soon sign a memorandum of understanding with the Hualien County Government that would allow it to use 7.4 hectares of public land without charge for a national maritime resources museum. Construction on an underground railway project between New Taipei City and Taoyuan is to begin in April next year, the Railway Bureau said yesterday. The project is part of the Executive Yuan’s Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program. A master plan for the project was approved by the Executive Yuan in September last year. Legislature passes third-stage forward-looking budget

The Legislative Yuan yesterday passed a special budget of NT$229.83 billion (US$8.07 billion) for the third stage of the government’s Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program. The funding for the third phase, which began this year and runs through next year, was approved after NT$169.65 million was deducted from the original budget.
