Published January 18, 2021 4:03pm The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Monday said its officers intercepted close to 12,000 Filipino travelers in 2020 as a result of its anti-illegal recruitment and anti-illegal trafficking campaign. Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said immigration officers stopped 11,706 passengers from leaving the country, most of them or over 9,000 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Of this number, 295 were turned over to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking as possible trafficking victims, said BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. Manahan said the most common reasons for barring a person from leaving are failure to present the required papers, carrying fraudulent documents, and misrepresentation.
