The Bedford County Commissioners made a declaration of disaster emergency Wednesday due to the first snowstorm of the winter season.
David Cubbison, director of county emergency services, said the declaration assists municipalities in getting emergency work done without âseveral of the normal hoopsâ needed to go through.
âWe authorize officials of Bedford County to act as necessary to meet the current demands of this emergency,â the commissioners said in the declaration.
Those efforts could include the hiring of temporary workers, the rental of equipment, purchasing supplies and materials, or entering related contracts to meet the emergency.
In order to receive funding from state or federal sources, the county would need to reach historical snowfall totals in one, two or three day increments. Cubbison said that would be just over 30 inches for one day.
