Each year, Bedford County Public Schools names a teacher of the year. It recognizes teachers who have done an outstanding job. The process starts with each school naming one of its teachers as teacher of the year for the school. It's an honor that teachers greatly appreciate because they have been nominated by their fellow teachers.
A Bedford County student has won The Roanoke Times Regional Spelling Bee and will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Memorial Day weekend in Washington, D.C.

District 7 school board member Martin Leamy has called it quits. His resignation was effective Jan. 31 and the school board is seeking applications from people interested in filling the seat.
