like to be in those circumstances right now, having lived through that and still face the challenges ahead. the storm, it does still remain a threat as it moves inland. we want to get the latest on it from cnn s jennifer gray in the weather center. so, jennifer, what is the latest right now? that was tough, john. this storm is still moving through the midatlantic. the storm is now post-tropical. it has lost its tropical characteristics, but the rain is still with it. we are looking at heavy rainfall all across the midatlantic, even spilling into the northeast, so we are going to see the potential for flooding. the good news around the coast of the carolinas, the storm surge has ended. all the water is flowing back into the ocean. we still have some flooding, some inland flooding going on, and we will have a tornado watch until 10:00. so the possibility of spinups definitely there as we go throughout the evening hours. but here s the forecast radar, and you can see a lot of rain falli
reports. but it was about the torrents of rainfall. we looked at the radar loop, again, here is the county in west virginia, just below that in the western part of virginia, training one thunderstorm after another over the same area. 6.5 to 8.5 inches in a couple hours time. this is a mountain hilly area, so all that rainfall down to the lowest point, the river. they said walls of water coming and pushing those houses off of course their foundations. washed away roadways, over 40 people are missing. keep them in your thoughts. a little bit of rainfall could be heavy at times. panhandle of florida over toward louisiana, doesn t look really impressive on the forecast radar, but there will be some downpours and more rainfall out west. and then a nice little band moves in toward chicago for friday. more records were broken, waco, 108. broke it by one. college station, 106. that record went back to 1901. and advisories, good chunk of
also south dakota and into portions of minnontana with damaging winds and large size hail. so if you re traveling by car, watch out for that. you ll have to take it slow. that is the word of the day. exercise that caution and just take your time. because those roads are very tricky as far as precipitation. here is a forecast radar. all the ways that i mentioned along the i-95 corridor. down across the tennessee river valley and into the central plains. but not just there. also across the west. there is still some monsoonal moisture wrapped around the four corners region, the central plains will see the heaviest amounts of precipitation. right now no current airport delays but as we go through the afternoon, when that air traffic started to pick up, that is when you re looking at greatest possibility of some delays. some of them could be significant. these are daytime high temperatures, hot across the southwest and it looks like some of the airports in raleigh and
will make some major changes because we could see some inundation in some locally folf focused areas and less in others. that miami city area with heavy population density could see some heavy impacts from flooding but also we could see some brief spin ups of some tornados. this is what we re looking at in this forecast radar. when we watch it move across the south central region of miami, areas from naples to fort myers into the florida keys over to miami and up towards west palm beach we re going to see that rain move in and move out, but in its wake we could see as much as 12 inches of rainfall. generally speaking 3 to 6 inches, some locally heavier amounts, this is the forecast radar. there you can see from fort myers all the way over to fort pierce and the miami met roplex region then it moves out. but don t be fooled by this. if you re traveling to these beautiful beaches in south
