Mark Masters: Zach Bogosian s return will inject whole lot of nasty into Leafs lineup

TSN Toronto Reporter Mark Masters reports on the Maple Leafs, who practised at Ford Performance Centre on Wednesday. Game 1 of Toronto s first-round playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens goes Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena. Out since April 20 with a shoulder injury, Zach Bogosian is poised to return to the Leafs lineup on Thursday night.  The outlook looks good. He got through another hard and competitive practice today, said head coach Sheldon Keefe. It is a nice addition for us. Frankly, we were unsure if he was going to be available for this series, but credit him for the work that he has put in to get himself ready.

Zach Hyman not expecting rust in return to top-line role

The Leafs practised at Ford Performance Centre on Sunday.  Zach Hyman is expected to play on Thursday when the Leafs open their playoff series against the Canadiens.  We haven t gotten the final clearance for him medically, but I certainly believe we are trending that way, said coach Sheldon Keefe. Another great practice for him today. Hyman skated on the top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. The gritty winger hasn t suited up in a game since April 18 when a knee-on-knee hit by Canucks defenceman Alex Edler left him with an MCL sprain. Hyman has now taken part in three practices since being cleared for contact and isn t feeling much rust.

Toronto Maple Leafs Riley Nash remains out, but has potential to centre shutdown line

TSN Toronto Reporter Mark Masters reports on the Maple Leafs, who practised at Ford Performance Centre on Tuesday before travelling to Ottawa for Wednesday’s game against the Senators. Riley Nash and Zach Hyman skated on regular lines on Tuesday, but remain unavailable due to knee injuries.  I really just wanted to make sure [Nash] was able to get proper reps,  coach Sheldon Keefe explained.  That is important as we try to get both him and Hyman back and ready to play games. Today was their first full practice [with contact]. It is our last full practice of the week. It was important to give them that opportunity.

Toronto Maple Leafs Jack Campbell: Pressure s fun, aims to build on breakthrough season

TSN Toronto Reporter Mark Masters reports on the Maple Leafs, who practised at Ford Performance Centre on Monday ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Senators in Ottawa. Slowed by a leg injury early in the season, Jack Campbell recovered to help lead the Leafs to their first division tittle since 2000. On Monday, the Toronto chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association named him the team s nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. It s been a terrific story for both he and then our team to rally around,  said head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Toronto Maple Leafs engine Mitch Marner revs up his game

He s young at heart so I don t think we want him to get too mature yet,  said defenceman Justin Holl with a chuckle,  but it s nice to see him grow up in front of our eyes. He s taken on a leadership role this year and he s done it really well. He s experiencing a lot of personal success as well so I m really happy for him. He s the engine of our team.   Marner plays the second-most minutes on the team and most among the forwards (22:26 per game). He also leads the Leafs in scoring with 64 points, which ranks fourth in the NHL entering Wednesday s games. Marner is tied for seventh overall in even-strength goals (18).
