it. ainsley: is there someone in congress ombudsman going through each of these bills and going through and calling out these congress men and women doing this? tom coburn used to have his famous waste book and thankfully he has a successor who puts out a waste book and chron kepples all the idiotic things the government is spending money on. the other problem we have is all these bills are gigantic. look at the farm bill. not just what we should be doing about the farm economy, it also has to do with the food stamps programs. democrats are opposed to any cuts in that program. republicans want to reform it but, it all sort of squishes into these giant omnibus bills. and basically, again, no one really has the will to challenge it. ainsley: too much spending. we need to cut back on that and the fax reform bill was great for the economy. more people had money in their pockets and they could spend more. over the last decade of slow growth the debt in the
think we ll hear a lot more of the back and forth of the hammering from both sides on this topic between now and that spending fight. it certainly does sound lie deja vu all over against. jessica yellin, thank you. there may be serious improvement in the overall u.s. economy, but america s poorest would not necessarily know that. here are some very, very disturbing numbers. when president obama took office in january 2009, about 32 million americans were on the federal food stamps programs, with a cost to american taxpayers of about $39 ll ne food stamps at a cost of morehan $80 billion. many of those are children going to bed hungry if they were without food stamps.
greta: sir, why have food stamps programs exploded? because more people are needy and hungry and we re reaching them or because because the government made a mess of the program? because the federal government made a mess of the program by exploiting the program and exploiting those people who have learned how to abuse the program. the food stamps program, greta, is a misnomer with two words, food and stamp. it s no longer just about helping to get people to get food. it helps them to get free stuff and secondly, because some bureaucrat thought that people going in and handing in stamps was somewhat insulting, they now have given them a government credit card. and i found this out today, greta, on my radio show. a guy called in who said he owns fitness centers. the government has even allowed food stamp recipients to use their card for fitness training programs.
that s not what his budget does. it literally cuts from poor people. and doesn t help the decifit. look, what paul ryan is doing is laying out a long term vision for trying to reform government in all of its aspects. it does mean reigning in discretionary spending, making hard choices on entitlements like social security, medicare and medicaid and other things, food stamps programs, in order to reign in spending, because it can t go on this long and when the democrats continue to focus on the class warfare, taxing millionaires and billionaires, that doesn t solve the problem because even if you were to confiscate everything that millionaires and billionaires have in assets that would fund the government for a couple of days. megyn: would you it but it would make them feel better. got to go. thank you both so much. thank you. hig mig in the last 48 hours, two major media outlets have been forced to make major changes to their reports after critics slammed their coverage of the
