SHU Alumnus Assists with Food Network Doc on Covid Effect on Restaurants Written by Kim Swartz
Sacred Heart University alumnus Mike Galeotti ’18, ’20 spent time in 2020 working on a Food Network documentary that first aired in late December. Guy Fieri, renowned restaurateur and television personality, was the project’s co-director and executive producer.
The documentary captures the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the restaurant industry. While some restaurants have relied on take-out and delivery services to stay open, many others have closed, either short-term or permanently.
“I’ve traveled coast to coast visiting thousands of restaurants across the country on
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and after all the time on the road, it’s clear that restaurants are the heart and soul of their communities,” Fieri told Food Network. “When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the impact on the restaurant industry was immediate.
Local boy to appear on popular baking show on Food Network this month

SUGAR CITY A local boy took his baking talents to Hollywood over the summer to compete for a chance to earn a sweet grand prize.
Sugar City local Keaton Ashton, 12, was one of a dozen contestants selected to be on the Kids Baking Championship a competitive television show for young bakers on the Food Network. He spent the summer filming the 10-week competition that is set to air at the end of the year. Contestants are eliminated on a weekly basis, and only one is named the winner and receives $25,000, a spot in Food Network Magazine and the title of Kids Baking Champion.

“Restaurant Hustle 2020: All On The Line,” sheds light on four well-known restaurateurs grappling with how to preserve food businesses plagued by shutdowns, capacity limits on indoor and outdoor dining, mounting bills and industry-wide job losses. The documentary, which originally aired during the virtual DOC NYC film festival, will be widely shown on Food Network Dec. 27 at 9 p.m.
