that s a fun fact for the day. weather wise we re tracking a storm across the central plains. we ve got heavy reason working with this next system. also going to bring some snow to parts of the rockies spring pretty much being like spring is across much of the country we also will see the spoejs for strong even severe storms through the afternoon hours today and even into the evening hours. most of this centered in portions of of texas and oklahoma all included in this it looks like the main threat is going to be hail, large hail at that but also damaging winds and we can t rule out a couple of tornados this is the kind of bulls eye we ll be looking at for that the flooding potential will also be pretty immense. this is an area that really needs the rain dealing with drought conditions in agriculture regions is not always great, so they ll be happy i m sure to get all this rain, but it s going to happen all at once causing some problems we could see 2 to 3 inches in some spots

severe thunderstorm risk to be including things like hail, maybe some damaging wind, low tornado threat, but it s not zero, so it will still be something worth watching as we get out and about for our saturday plans along the east coast tomorrow we ll also see the heavy rain working in that will bring flooding potential to parts of the mid-atlantic and stretching to the southeast. here s that severe weather potential for tomorrow 16 million people are included in this, and it goes from basically jacksonville all the way into washington, d.c that s, again, going to be the hail, the wind and potentially an isolated tornado or two here s where we have the biggest chance for the flash flooding. we ve seen impressive rainfall rates through the morning hours, and we still have that potential in places like nashville, memphis, jackson as well as new orleans so just watch for that we will when it s all said and done picked up a couple of inches of rain we could see upwards of 1, maybe 2 inches

categories for tornadoes is extremely rare. they make up roughly 1% of the total tornadoes that we see. so again just kind of goes to show how rare they are. and the damage is significant. you see this car right here that is basically been lifted up and tossed over onto the side of the building there. that is one of the indicators that the national weather service will look for when they go out to survey these storms and determined is that an ef zero all the way up to an ef five because four and ef four. specifically they are looking for cars and other objects that are thrown well constructed in whole frame houses leveled and those are two very specific things that we saw with that particular tornado, but it was one of many that has occurred over just the last 72 hours across the southeast. now we do still have those ongoing storms. as of right now, they re located in the carolinas, stretching back through georgia and alabama as well. well now the most imminent, widespread concern over

storms, and so really, by late this evening into the early overnight hours as when we re really going to see these storms peak, we re talking about strong tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail and this area with the black lines. that s going to be our greatest risk for a strong tornado, and it s going to be basically between six o clock tonight through midnight eastern time. and so putting these storms into motion any of these storms ahead of these by this evening could produce a weak tornado or two, but the strongest ones really will be around the area across the arklatex or the mississippi. happy valley and then on into this portions of the southeast. that s eight o clock tonight and then by 11 o clock tonight, you can see the storm s starting to leave that area. they will lose intensity. slightly during the overnight hours, but they could still remain strong all the way through the overnight, j. so we re looking at also a flooding potential. we could see 2 to 4 inches of rain across

sides move more freely and fight more intensely. time now let s shift to the weather and give it a shot with angie lassman. if you blinked you might have missed it, john tln. there were some snow flakes in and around new york city. those will be gone by the time 7:00 rolls around, but leftover will be cool and crisp conditions. the winds will make it feel more like the 30s, so bundle up. as we look a little farther to the south and west through the central plains we re going to have another couple of days where we could see some heavy rain working through. a stationary front is basically stuck there and wal see some showers and thunderstorms develop along it, and that leaves us with flooding potential for places like oklahoma city, stretching into arkansas, texas, all included in this here as we go through not just today but tomorrow as well. keep an eye on that. out west they cannot catch a
