The Day - Some area high schools hope to hold COVID-19 vaccine clinics for students age 16-18

As the state continues to make COVID-19 vaccinations easier to obtain for all eligible age groups statewide, local high schools are racing against the calendar to try to schedule clinics for two doses of the Pfizer vaccine for students age 16 and up before summer vacation. Only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for emergency use for people aged 16 and 17, and school officials throughout the region are hoping to schedule first- and second-dose clinics the required three weeks apart before the school year ends. Local health districts, which do not administer Pfizer vaccines, are helping to coordinate clinics with local health centers that are approved to use the Pfizer vaccine.
