moment. everything in this area is shut down. we ll talk about that momentarily. first of all we going to show you video. we might even have live video at some point of the suspect s location, his apartment which is not far from here. we have new information coming in in regards to his apartment. the aurora fire department is telling us that they have found a number of number of coke-size bottles full of liquid inside the suspect s apartment. there are tap wires. they don t know what it s connected to. they have established a safe zone and bomb squad technicians are on scene. they believe they are trip wires like you see in a movie, you can see contraptions strung throughout the room. thiethey have brought in a number of firetrucks, one is a ladder trucks where you can look into the windows. they say it s very sophisticated. they say cameras are in place to get a better look. robot -rs on the scene as are on the scene. they are not sure what could be detonated, a fire, possibility
outside of the apartment unit. it s one of those tense situations where we saw several firetrucks rush to the scene after the s.w.a.t. team left. we thought that maybe there wasn t anything in the building, even though the suspect had said he left it booby trapped. but sure enough firetrucks rushed to the scene, and the bomb squad, and the fire department came out, and they actually told us, yes, sophisticated devices, with trip wires ready to explode if those trip wires were detonated. that is the latest from 17th and peoria, fox bowman first 31 denver. reporter: how far around the perimeter have people been evacuated from the apartment? it s a confusing little corner, but there are several apartment buildings of the same size, three stories, that are adjacent to the building. and then there is one that is about four or five stories that is just south of the building. so the fire department has indicated that those five buildings will be evacuated.
seriously right now. we ll keep you up to speed on this. any more information we ll bring it to you. megyn: do we know if this was something they identified prior to this. this threat that was written down? reporter: it s all very unclear. i mean all we re getting right now. these are reports from our network affiliate kabc. first it came across as a naval officer, then they were saying no, it was a marine at camp pendleton marine base, and they found in his journal entry something about leaving an incendiary device at san clemente high school. san clemente high school is probably 15 or 16 miles up the road from camp pendleton, maybe 20 miles at the farthest. san clemente of course the famous western white house for richard nixon, it s right on the ocean, it s a very quaint little beach community. and now you ve got firetrucks, and bomb squad and all these people trying to clear this area. but clearly they are taking this thing extraordinarily seriously. we are on the phone to police
tampa, florida. the associated press is reporting that several people were injured when a tent collapsed at an air show in lakeland, florida. we were originally told it was an airport hangar and that 70 people were trapped. that s not clear now. we don t know whether it was a tent or a hangar and exactly how many people are in there. again, initial reports are that it was 70. now the a.p. is reporting that several are hurt. it s not necessarily inconsistent. we heard moments ago that the weather in lakeland, florida, that the fire teams trying to get to this incident to help, had to pull the firetrucks off the road. phil keating is back with us with an update. reporter: seven people with minor injuries have been rushed to local hospital, that according to the polk county sheriff s department. as fire and rescue crews were on their way to the airport after reports of the heavy
reporter: japan had never declared a nuclear emergency. it is dealing with six runaway reactors. two in dire shape. two reactors now where we have core that is partially melted. this is unprecedented. reporter: the good news, inside those buildings, the hot nuclear cores and their primary containment housings are said to be intact. but with no electricity, the japanese are reportedly using firetrucks, taking the drastic step of pumping seawater into the cores and flooding the containment housings of both reactors. a last-ditch effort to cool the cores to stop the nuclear reaction. we are at a reactor tipping point. either over the next 24 to 48 hours they re going to get control of these reactors or you ll get meltdown at one or more reactors. a completely unprecedented situation. reporter: the japanese reactors designed by general electric are more than four decades old and common in the united states.
