Ambulance revenues up for Burlington

Fire and ambulance services will cost Burlington taxpayers $3.6 million in Fiscal Year 2022. The entire department costs $6.3 million to operate and maintain, excluding revenue that offsets the cost. We re 24% of the general fund, but we generate a bit of revenue, said Fire Chief Matt Trexel. The Burlington Fire Department is expecting $2.7 million in revenue in FY22. Of the department s revenue, 89% comes from the ambulance service. Most of the rest of their revenue comes from other governmental agencies paying the BFD for fire and hazardous materials coverage. The department is seeing an increase in ambulance revenue thanks to funding through Ground Emergency Medical Transport. GEMT pays for Medicaid patients who are transported, which make up a large percentage of the patients transported by the BFD.
