No parade, but St. Charles still has St. Patrick's Day events scheduled Saturday

Updated 3/12/2021 6:33 AM After pivoting for Halloween and the holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic, the St. Charles Business Alliance is hoping for similar success with its St. Patrick s Day celebration on Saturday. The annual parade is canceled for a second straight year because of gathering restrictions, but unlike last year when all the St. Patrick s Day events were canceled organizers had time this year to create different ways for people to celebrate safely throughout downtown St. Charles.   A year ago, on the Wednesday before the parade, that s when everything kind of went down, said business alliance events manager Amy Curione. We were all ready, but we canceled everything. It really happened fast.

Buffalo Grove gears up for summer event adjustments

Buffalo Grove gears up for summer event adjustments Kids scream with glee on a ride at Buffalo Grove Days. The fate of this year s festival is uncertain. Daily Herald file photo/September 2010   Buffalo Grove officials are already planning for summer events. But it s looking like Buffalo Grove Days might be drastically scaled down, even dead on arrival.   At Monday s committee of the whole, trustees pondered the options for summer events. The Farmers Market is a shoe-in for this summer after a successful season, despite the pandemic. The Fourth of July fireworks, which were canceled last year, could be returning. Village Manager Dane Bragg said staff reached out to the park district about collaborating on a drive-in fireworks event utilizing the district s parking facilities, along with the municipal campus and, possibly, parking on Hamilton Partners office park property.

Naperville events grants OK d, but questions about reassigning unused funds arise   The Naperville Jaycees Last Fling event, held annually in September, is among the largest grant recipients through this year s Special Events Cultural Amenities program. John Starks | Staff Photographer, 2019   Posted3/4/2021 5:10 AM A Fourth of July celebration, an LGBTQ+ pride festival and a new memorial honoring the families of fallen military personnel are among dozens of Naperville initiatives set to receive funding this year through the Special Events Cultural Amenities program. The city council s allocation of $879,009 to various cultural, social and artistic entities Tuesday largely follows the guidance of the advisory SECA Commission. The panel s recommendation, however, included awards for two St. Patrick s Day-themed events recently canceled due to the COVID-19 crisis, prompting council members to redistribute those funds and sparking a conversation about how futu

Vernon Hills to budget for summer activities with fingers crossed   With fingers crossed, Vernon Hills leaders will be budgeting for Summer Celebration. If it proceeds, the long-running festival likely will be in a different format. John Starks | Staff Photographer, 2017   Posted2/23/2021 5:15 AM Vernon Hills isn t writing off big events this summer or fall, but whatever is held will be different from typical activities of the past.
