A growing number of soybeans are showing up with a seed coat something other than yellow. The soybeans that often have a large area that is often more brown are called soybeans of other colors, or SBOC.
When Enlist E3 beans were introduced in 2019, it was known that seed coat color variation was possible. Now that the technology has been adopted on nearly half of all soybean acres, the off-color seeds are posing an issue as more loads are failing to be certified as U.S. No. 1 or No. 2 yellow soybean, reducing their marketability, especially for export.
