Vietnam shares economic development experience with Venezuela

Thursday, 12:22, 10/06/2021 A webinar on the role of the private economic sector and experience in foreign investment management of Vietnam in Doi moi (renewal) process took place in Venezuela on June 9. The event, held by the Embassy of Vietnam in Venezuela together with the Venezuela-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce (CAVENVIET), aimed to share Vietnam’s achievements in economic restructuring in the Doi moi process with the Latin American nation. President of the Vietnam-Venezuela Friendship Association Associate Professor Nguyen Viet Thao said that over 1.4 million private businesses were set up in Vietnam between 2016 and 2020. The private sector is currently the largest contributor to the country’s gross domestic product and present 30% to the State budget.

FDI businesses enjoy trade surplus of nearly US$34 billion throughout 2020

Monday, 18:10, 25/01/2021 VOV.VN - Foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises recorded a trade surplus of US$33.87 billion during 2020, while their export value reached US$202.89 billion, representing an annual increase of 10.7%, according to figures released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs. December alone saw the total import and export value of FDI firms reach US$38.48 billion, marking an increase of 9.6% from the previous month. Throughout 2020, the import and export value of FDI businesses witnessed a surge of 11.8% to US$371.90 billion, equivalent to an increase of US$39.26 billion in comparison to 2019. Most notably, FDI enterprises exported goods worth a total of US$20.44 billion in December alone, a boost of 8.2% from the previous month, while their  total export value during 2020 rose by 10.7% to US$202.89 billion compared to the previous year.
