Armed men assassinate Afghanistan journalist

Kabul, Jan. 1, 2021 An Afghanistan journalist, Bismillah Adil Aimaq, was on Friday assassinated by some armed men in Dara-e-Taimoor Village on the outskirts of Feroz Koh in Ghor locality, reports said. Adil, who was also a civil society activist in Ghor, was the sixth journalist to be killed in two months. Mohammad Aref Abir, Ghor governor’s spokesman, said Adil, who was the head of a local radio station, Radio Sada-e-Ghor, was killed in the attack by the armed men, TOLO News reported. On Dec. 21, 2020, Afghanistan journalist Rahmatullah Nikzad, who was also the head of journalists’ union in Ghazni Province, was killed in an armed attack.

Afghan Journalist Laid to Rest in Ghor, Family Calls for Justice The body of Bismillah Adil Aimaq, a journalist and civil society activist in Ghor, who was killed in an attack by unknown armed men in the city of Feroz Koh on Friday, was laid to rest in his hometown in Ghor province on Saturday.  Aimaq’s father said the Afghan security agencies did nothing to foil attack on his son. He called on judicial institutions to identity the attackers and serve them justice. “The enemies of my dear son should be punished as soon as possible. If the government does not take action in this respect, I will take action along my sons and my people,” said Gul Mohammad, father of the slain journalist in Ghor.

Afghanistan: Gunmen kill prominent journalist and activist Unidentified gunmen have shot and killed Bismillah Adil Aimaq, an Afghan journalist and human rights activist. Afghanistan is ranked among the deadliest countries in the world for journalists. Feroz Koh is located in central Afghanistan Gunmen in western Afghanistan opened fire on the car of journalist Bismillah Adil Aimaq on Friday, killing him but leaving others traveling in the vehicle unharmed, the spokesman for the governor of Ghor province said. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the killing. It is the latest in a series of killings of journalists in the past two months, with Afghanistan ranked as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for media workers by press freedom group Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

Attack against Afghan journalist are cowardly: US National Security Council

(Last Updated On: January 1, 2021) United States of America National Security Council (USNSC) on Thursday condemned recent targeted attacks on Afghan journalists in Afghanistan and called it attacks disgraceful.  The council also said they stand with Afghan journalists.   “We stand with brave Afghan journalists. Targeted attacks against them are disgraceful and cowardly.” USNSC tweeted. “All who care about Afghanistan and its people should strongly condemn these senseless acts,” USNSC added.  Meanwhile, Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai the head of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s negotiating team says that in the next round of peace talks with the Taliban, saving the lives of journalists is one of their priorities.
