How do you split the performances of Addirra Collette, Chayelle Collette, Monique Gorrie and Kimberley Walsh? All are championship titleholders and worthy winners. I’m going to sit on the fence and make it a joint award to Addirra and Chayelle Collette. It is a lot easier looking at the male hurdler of the year. The award goes to Braxton Kauri and the female award to Juliette McKinlay. Winning a senior national title means Kara Macdermid is our female distance runner of the year. The male award is a toss up between Noah Macdermid and Benjamin Wall, with Wall just ahead.
Hannah Cadzow had a successful day, winning the junior girls’ 100m, 200m, 400m and long jump. As expected, one of the country’s leading young athletes, Monique Gorrie, dominated the intermediate grade sprints, winning the 100m, 200m and 400m races, setting a new school record in her heat of the 200m. Her younger sister Brianna finished second in the 100m and 200m. Amber Trow was another to set a school record with her 1.64m clearance in the intermediate high jump. She also won the 80m hurdles. Alice Cook was another to impress, winning the long and triple jump. Janae Laing completed the school’s impressive lineup of talent in the intermediate grade, with big wins in the discus and shot put.
